Our Standard LCD Products
STANDARD LCD GLASS
Liquid Crystal Images distributes standard LCD glass.
We manufacture both positive image and negative image TN LCD
modules. The positive image modules have dark segments on a gray
background and the negative image modules have clear segments on a
black background. We manufacture modules in a variety of display
modes including reflective (no backlight), transreflective
(backlight or outside light source) and transmissive (backlight).
Liquid crystal displays are passive electronic components. They do
not emit light, but rather manipulate it. The liquid crystal
structure rotates (twists) polarized light as it passes through the
LC material and through the polarizer. The front polarizer is
positioned 90 degrees out of phase from the rear polarizer. When an
electrical field is applied, the LC molecules in the field align
with the field and will not interrupt the polarized light traveling
through the display. This will cause the light to be extinguished at
the rear polarizer. When the electrical field is removed, the
molecules return to their normal helix formation. The electronic
field is defined as the junction of conductive areas of the pattern,
and the conductive electrode. By having the polarizers aligned 90
degrees out of phase, a positive image display is created. (dark
segments on light/gray background) If the polarizers are aligned in
parallel, the inverse image appears (negative image – light segments
on dark background).

STANDARD LCD MODULES
Liquid Crystal Images distributes standard LCD display modules.
We manufacture modules is a variety of colors. The Yellow/Green
module has dark blue or black segments on a yellow/green background.
The Gray modules have dark blue segments on a gray background. The
FSTN modules are a film compensated STN (black and white display).
The Blue modules have white/clear segments on a blue background. We
manufacture modules in a variety of display modes including
reflective (no backlight), transreflective (backlight or outside
light source) and transmissive (backlight).
Liquid
crystal displays are used in a wide range of applications,
including instrument panels, aircraft cockpit displays, signage, etc.
They are common in consumer devices such as DVD players, gaming
devices, clocks, watches, calculators, radios and telephones. LCDs have
displaced cathode ray tube (CRT) displays in most applications. They are
usually more compact, lightweight, portable, less expensive, more
reliable, as well as easier on the eyes.
Custom LCD Products
CUSTOM LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAYS
Liquid Crystal Images specializes in custom LCD applications, and often produces custom LCDs and modules for our customers. In addition, we have worked with some of our customers on custom solutions to reduce assembly and overall product costs. We mate our standard or custom LCD products to the customer’s PCBs to reduce the overall product cost. In one instance, we were able to offer our customer a 25% savings on their LCD module cost, and reduce the overall assembly cost by over 50% through manufacturing and assembling their PCB to our module at our factory. The fully assembled module / board is then stocked for the customer in our Cleveland, OH facility.Liquid Crystal Images has tackled complete assembly for its customers. One customer had a custom design (including plastic housings) for its product, but did not wish to manufacture the design or assemble the product at their facility. We worked with the customer to tool and assemble the entire product in our China facility. We source components from the BOM, commission the plastic molder, coordinated the various components and provide product assembly in our China facility, and ship the finished product to the customer’s warehouse. This assembly benefits the customer many ways. First, it gives them a single source for information and problem resolution for their product. Second, it allows them to focus on improving design and marketing the product, while we worry about the manufacturing process and quality controls. Lastly, it offers them a huge cost savings for the final product.
